Rooted in the US, Lids
was founded in 1992. Carrying a wide assortment
of headwear of world famous sports clubs and other
well-known brands, it is the largest headwear retail
chain in the world. With over 480 outlets in the
US, Lids boasts an annual turnover of US$200 million.
In 2004, Mainland Headwear
Group, world-renowned manufacturer of leisure headwear,
reached a licensee agreement with Hatworld, Inc.,
Lids retailer in the US, to launch headwear retail
business in Hong Kong and the PRC. The first Hong
Kong Lids outlet was opened in May 2004, while
the first Lids in the PRC started business in June
in Shanghai.
The opening of Lids created
a brand new headwear culture in Hong Kong and the
PRC. Marrying the years of experience of Mainland
Headwear in headwear development and expertise
of Hat Word in headwear retail, Lids is set to
become the big gun in the headwear industry, leading
the headwear market of Hong Kong and the PRC. Optimistic
about the future of its business, the Company will
invest more resources into developing its operations
in Hong Kong and the PRC. Over 200 Lids outlets
are scheduled to open in Hong Kong and the PRC
in the coming three years.
